Through a faithless eye

I just realized I hadn't updated in a long time and so I think I will. I somehow contracted mono. I have no idea how, but I did. So that has put me living at my parents house for a week. I had my mom pick me up from my apartment Friday night because I was feeling so terrible and she brought me back to the house. Long story short, it was a very dramatic night that involved no sleeping, very little breathing (on my part), and a near emergency room visit. My mom slept in my room with me because she was so scared I was just going to stop breathing. It was far from pleasant. Then Saturday morning dawned and my mom took me to CareNow since they were the only place open at the time. We had to wait a little bit, but they had Cool Runnings on so it was ok. Once they called us in they said they were going to do several tests to try and figure out what I had. Well come to find out, the test for mono is even worse than the test for strep. They actually have to prick your finger and get a blood sample. Now you should know that I am not the bravest of creatures when it comes to this kind of thing, but I was feeling so bad I sucked it up and let them do it. My mom started laughing after though because she said I looked like the most pitiful thing ever. Once the doctor came back and confirmed that I had mono, he said that they could only treat the symptoms and that there really isn't a cure. He said the best thing for my throat (which was as close to being completely closed off as it could be with me still breathing) would be to give me a steroid shot which would reduce the swelling. At this point I started to get a little panicky. I am definitely not a shot person. I tend to either cry or hyperventilate or both on occasion. But when the doctor left my mom reminded me about how bad my throat was and so I resigned myself to a shot. So the nurse came in, administered the shot (I had my mom hold my hand still) and everything was fine, right? Wrong. I had a bad reaction to the shot and ended up throwing up. So my mother runs out into the hall to try to get someone and the doctor comes running in. He said they could give me another shot or pills for the nausea and asked me which one I wanted. I think I was delirious at this point because I don't really remember too much, but I asked for the shot. So I ended up getting another shot. Both of which I had to get near my hips. This made walking and sitting a bit uncomfortable for the next few days. The good news is that I am alive and as well as can be at this point. I just tire out pretty easily. I'm not supposed to do any heavy lifting or exercise really, but that's about it. I took this week off work to give myself some time to recoup and am living at home so I "eat right". All in all it's not too bad I guess. Could be a lot worse. :)
